I haven't followed too closely but looking at GeekBench, the IPC/single threaded performance of the A9 is probably up there with SB/IVB, if not better. Those Jaguar cores are weak sauce in terms of IPC. I'd rather play Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast of Xbox 360.Ĭlick to expand.I am sure. Intinity Blade III - good graphics, boring as hell. I have a couple Rayman games on my iPhones and the graphics look better than any game on those consoles I described and after 15 minutes, I am literally bored out of my mind. Despite the power of smartphones today easily eclipsing NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, and PS1/PS2 at least, gaming on a smartphone is an absolutely joke compared to the experience on those consoles. IMO, no matter how much more powerful the graphics in smartphones get over the next 5 years, gaming on smartphones is only good for casual pick up and play style games, nothing hardcore.
Think about it, would you want to play GTA 6, BF5, Cyberpunk 2077 on a smartphone over a 24-40" 4K PC monitor? I guess some people would but I don't see how I could enjoy playing games with my fingers on a 5.5" smartphone over using proper inputs, mouse, keyboard, joysticks on a large PC monitor with awesome speakers/headphones. Otherwise, it's just marketing BS.įrom a practical point of view, even if you could harness the power of a GTX980Ti inside a tablet/smartphone, it's mostly pure marketing. When companies like Apple say they have reached console level of graphics performance, the only way their statement would be accurate is if they are discussing Xbox 360/PS3 or Wii/Wii U.
I'll even go as far as to say that by the time smartphone GPUs catch up to PS4, the current console generation will be almost over and it'll probably be the year 2019. Future APUs could possibly incorporate HBM2 as well. Right now AMD's integrated performance is stuck because they are waiting to shift to a 16nm node. By that point Intel will have increased performance of its graphics even more, while NV/AMD will have adopted HBM2 and possibly HBM3 and would leap by massive amounts from today.
Therefore, if 840M/940M at #135/139 and the Surface Pro 3 HD5000 ( best case) is almost 2X faster than the Adreno 430 but HD5000 is #302 on that chart, how far are smartphone mobile GPUs like Adreno 530 from 840M/940M? Ridiculously far.Īnd BTW, in late 2015, 840M/940M are not mainstream GPUs but extremely low end.īy the time smartphone GPUs even catch up to 840M/940M, it'll probably take at least 3-4 generations (3-4 years). Those cards are sitting at spots #135 and #139. NOW, we finally arrived at your level which is 840M/940M. Desktop R7 250 as it sits relative to a mobile GPU compares to a 570M/660M level.ĥ70M/660M are about #110-120 on the same list.
